We like to have fun at SWAFT, and we know how much
worldly pleasure toys can bring to both children and adults.
However, we also know that the toys we enjoy are produced
through the labor of countless individuals working in overseas
factories.
Intellectual honesty demands that we acknowledge many of these
workers endure unjust treatment, unsafe working conditions, excessive labor,
and insufficient wages.
While the jury is still out on the proper response
to the exploitation of workers overseas, the best we
feel we can do at this time is help promote awareness of the issue.
So the next time you get home from the toy store and find out that the paint
job
on your new Han Solo is a little sloppy, take a moment and think about
who actually painted the figure and imagine the
conditions in which he or she worked.
The following links are just a few places where you can start
to make yourself more aware of the issues at stake
in the production of the toys you see on this site.
